Spørsmål og svar om NinoxDrone2

Bakgrunnsinformasjon og ofte stilte spørsmål om NinoxDrone2

What is NinoxDrone2?

NinoxDrone2 is mainly a tool for applying for permission to fly in the 5 km zone around 17 airports. These are the same 17 airports where you could apply for flight permission in the old Ninox Drone. It is a temporary solution to continue the functionality of the old Ninox Drone after the vendor went bankrupt, causing the old app to stop working.

Question about NinoxDrone2

General information about the solution

Why can't I log in with BankID?

NinoxDrone2 shall be available to everyone who wants to fly in Norway, including foreign citizens without a Norwegian BankID. Therefore, Authenticator is used as a universal and secure system.

Why is this so advanced, I just want to fly my drone?

As a drone pilot, you are part of aviation and share the airspace with all other aircraft, both manned and unmanned. NinoxDrone2 is designed in accordance with European aviation regulations. If you want to be part of controlled aviation in the airspace around airports, you must follow these rules and register and apply for permission to fly.

Why are no no-fly zones shown in NinoxDrone2?

NinoxDrone2 is mainly a tool for applying for permission to fly within 5 km of the airports shown in the app. It is a temporary solution while waiting for Avidrone, and we have not carried out extensive development of a temporary solution. Avidrone will have integrations that show all restriction and protected areas when it is released.

Why is the 5-km zone around my local airport not shown?

NinoxDrone2 can be used to apply to fly within the 5 km zone at the 17 airports shown on the map in NinoxDrone2. These are the same airports that were in the old Ninox Drone. No other restriction areas are shown.

What is happening with Avidrone?

The launch of Avidrone has been postponed. It is coming, and intensive work is underway to complete the development of Avidrone.

Is there a website in addition to the app?

Yes, https://utm.avinor.no/avm/
Note that /avm must be included for the link to work.

Can I export data from old Ninox Drone?

No, one of the suppliers of old Ninox Drone is bankrupt. It is not possible to get anything out of the bankruptcy estate.

Registration and login

Everything about user creation and access

How do I register?

See the user guide for registration (here). Registration for private individuals is shown on pages 1-10.

To register, you need an external authenticator app. Download Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or FreeOTP. You must choose one authenticator app. If you try to register NinoxDrone2 in multiple authenticator apps, the registration will stop.

Why do I have to register again, why couldn't the user from the old Ninox Drone be transferred?

This was attempted by Avinor. One of the subcontractors of the old Ninox Drone is bankrupt, and it is not possible to obtain any data from the bankruptcy estate. Therefore, everyone must register again. Even though the name is almost the same, it is still a new system in the background.

I am told that the code from Authenticator is incorrect.

The codes in Authenticator are only valid for 30 seconds. There is a countdown next to each code that shows how long the code is valid. If you enter a code that has expired, you will receive an error message.

How am I supposed to paste the one-time code from Authenticator into NinoxDrone2 before the code expires?

If you click directly on the numbers in the authenticator app, they are copied automatically. At the top of the mobile screen, you will see that it says “code copied.”

After the code has been copied, go back to the NinoxDrone2 app. Tap the empty field for One-time code and select “paste.” If you tap correctly, this takes less than 8 seconds.

The codes in Authenticator are valid for 30 seconds. There is a countdown next to each code that shows how long the code is valid. If you wait until the code has just changed, you have 30 seconds to paste it into the NinoxDrone2 app.

Authenticator code has not expired, but is marked as invalid.

Contact technical support through the shortcut at the bottom of the login page. Click where it says «Technical support».

When you contact technical support, provide a clear explanation of what the issue is so they can help you as well as possible.

A good example: When I register, I get an error message that says this and that, see the attached screenshot of the error message.

A bad example: The login fails.

The contact form can also be opened through this link: https://support.ninoxdrone.no/#/

Is there something not working?

Errors and issues are reported to technical support. This can be found at the bottom of the login page / MyProfile in NinoxDrone2. The contact form can also be opened using this link: https://support.ninoxdrone.no/#/

I click "forgot password" but receive nothing.

Check your spam folder and make sure you have entered the correct email address.

What is «device name»?

Device name is not required to be filled out, so you can easily leave this field blank.

Why do I have to register as an operator and not as a pilot?

In European regulations for drone operations, all private individuals who are legally responsible for their own flights are an «Operator». A «Pilot» is the person who flies on behalf of an operator, meaning employees operating under an organization’s operator certificate, where the organization is the responsible operator.

I want to register my company/organization. What do I do?

Select «Create account» and create a user with your work email. Then register using your personal information as the responsible contact person for the organization. In the next step, you can choose between «natural person» and «legal person.» All organizations must choose «legal person» («natural person» is for private individuals). Follow the steps and enter information about the organization.

«Company identification number» is the organization number in the Brønnøysund Register (for Norwegian organizations).

I registered the error, can I change from a natural person to a legal person?

Yes, this can be done by the supplier. Contact technical support. You can find the shortcut at the bottom of “my profile” or via this link: https://support.ninoxdrone.no/#/

I have entered all the details, but I can’t submit my drone plan. What’s wrong?

You have registered as an organization pilot and not as an independent drone operator. You must be registered as an operator to submit a drone plan. Tap your name on the purple bar to go to your profile. Tap the large blue button that says «register operator». Then follow the registration steps.

Drone registration

How do I register my drone in my profile?

After you have registered as an operator:

  • Click on your name on the purple line to go to your profile.
  • Click on the blue person icon in the upper right.
  • Select «operator account».
  • Click on «assets» and then «add drone».
  • Follow the registration steps and fill in the information in the fields marked with «*»

Do I need to label my drone when it is entered into NinoxDrone2?

Yes, you must always label the drone with your operator ID. Even if your car is registered in your name, a visible registration number is still required when you are on the road. The same applies to drones.

Certificates and documentation

I have a certificate from another country. Can I upload a certificate that is not from flydrone.no?

Yes, you can. All European countries issue operatorID with the same format. Flydrone.no is mentioned specifically to help Norwegian drone pilots understand what is required, as they are the largest users of NinoxDrone2.

The certificate from flydrone.no is downloaded in PDF format. Why is PDF not accepted as an upload in the registration?

This is a choice made by the provider and is related to file security. We recommend taking a screenshot of your drone certificate and uploading it to NinoxDrone2. Note that file uploading is intended for screenshots. A regular camera photo may be too large in file size.

I am asked to upload documentation of competence. Why is the file not accepted?

Only screenshots of competence from flydrone.no are an approved file format. A camera image is too large, and PDF files that can be downloaded automatically from flydrone.no are not approved. The file limitations are set by the provider and are not something Avinor has the opportunity to influence.

Flights and permits

Do I need to register the flight regardless of whether I am going to fly in a 5 km zone or not?

Are you within 5 km of an airport? You must apply for permission to fly. You cannot fly before the control tower has approved your request to take off. If the control tower is closed, you are not allowed to fly within 5 km of the airport.

If you are outside a 5 km zone, it is not required to register the flight. However, we still encourage you to register your flight so that it is visible to rescue helicopters, air ambulances, police helicopters, and other emergency services.

How do I know if I have permission to take off?

When you submit a drone plan, the area for your flight will change color based on its status. NinoxDrone2 uses the following color codes:

Yellow – Your plan has been submitted and is awaiting a response from the air tower. It has the status «waiting for approval».

Blue – The plan details have been approved, but you do not yet have permission to fly. The pilot must send a request for «take off» before one can fly.

Green – Your request for «take off» has been approved. You can now fly the drone within the area and during the times you requested.

Gray – The plan has ended. You have clicked «end flight» yourself.

Empty with a black ring – Your plan has been canceled. This can happen either through automatic cancellation because the plan violates local restrictions, or because the air tower canceled it while you were flying.

Yellow with a dashed border – Your plan for a future time has been submitted and is awaiting a response from the air tower.

Blue with a dashed border – Your future plan has been approved. You do not yet have permission to fly. You must wait until the time you requested to fly, and then request «take off.» If you entered the wrong time by mistake, you must delete the incorrect plan and submit a new plan with the correct time.

I sent a request to fly, but it is neither approved nor rejected. Why is that?

If you submit a plan that is not in accordance with the regulations, it will be automatically canceled. Neither you nor the control tower receives a notification about it. Canceled plans are shown as transparent with a black border. You can also find the plan in the log under «cancelled plans.»

An example is that you request to fly higher than the permitted altitude in the area where you want to fly, or that there is a temporary restriction in the airspace. Note that you do not receive any notification if your plan is automatically canceled.

Why do I have to report that I have landed? Can't the time just run out?

The air traffic controller responsible for the airspace has no confirmation that you have landed, even if the time on your plan has expired. As a safety measure, an air traffic controller treats the area where you are to fly your drone as a no-fly zone for all other air traffic. Once you have reported that you have landed, the airspace will be released to other air traffic. By clicking “end flight” in NinoxDrone2, you help the air traffic controller maintain an accurate situational awareness of what is moving in the air. Failure to close a drone plan is considered a security breach from an air traffic controller’s perspective. So remember to report when you have landed!

Can I use NinoxDrone2 if I experience an uncontrolled situation (for example, a flyaway)?

First, you must notify the control tower and the police. Then you can use NinoxDrone2 to record an incident. You do this by clicking on the two lines in the lower left corner of the map (=) and then “Report occurence”.

In aviation, “Just Culture” is an important principle for maintaining a high level of safety. The purpose of reporting is learning and increased flight safety, not punishing individuals. Pilots and operators should feel safe that reporting mistakes will not result in punishment as long as it does not involve gross negligence or intentional offenses.
