In Norway, there is a no-fly zone for drones five kilometres around all airports. Due to Tromsø Airport's central location, this means it is prohibited to fly a drone across the whole of Tromsøya, parts of Kvaløya, Tromsdalen, and Tomasjord.

If you have not received permission from air traffic control to fly a drone in Tromsø, you risk having your drone confiscated by the police, being fined, and potentially being expelled from Norway if you are a tourist.

It is forbidden to fly a drone the following places:

  • The whole of Tromsøya, including Tromsø city centre and Telegrafbukta
  • Tromsdalen, including Fjellheisen and the Arctic Cathedral
  • Tomasjord
  • Kvaløya, including Kvaløysletta
