Monitoring of water and soil

General Monitoring of Groundwater

We monitor 80 groundwater wells three times a year. These groundwater wells are mainly located at the outer boundaries of the airport and at risk areas for emissions, such as storage tanks for de-icing chemicals. The wells are monitored for several parameters, including de-icing chemicals, oil, fluorinated compounds, and basic groundwater parameters. The purpose of this monitoring is to detect any deviations from the threshold values in the emission permit and unintended emissions, such as leaks from storage tanks. Additionally, this sampling is essential to observe any changes in groundwater chemistry over a longer period.

Streams and Rivers Southeast of the Airport

We sample Sogna and Leira four times a year. Additionally, automatic samplers are placed in Sogna to monitor daily emissions during the winter season. Every third year, we sample biota (fish) in Sogna and Leira. We also conduct aerial laser scanning to examine whether the airport's operations affect erosion processes, which in turn can affect the ravine landscape.

Grythull Lakes Northeast of the Airport

The Grythull lakes Danielsetertjern and Aurtjern are sampled twice a year. The samples are analyzed for de-icing chemicals, oil, heavy metals, fluorinated compounds, and general water parameters.

Contaminated Soil

The soil contamination resulting from historical activity is generally stable and does not spread with groundwater. Therefore, there is no need to remove the contaminated masses.
