Get the Drone License

• The vast majority of those flying drones must register with the Civil Aviation Authority at flydrone.no. You must also take the necessary courses and exams within the category in which you will be flying a drone.

You must always see the drone

• You must always know where the drone is in the air and be aware of the surroundings.

Know where you can fly a drone and register your drone flight

• There are several no-fly zones where it is not permitted to fly drones, including around airports. There is a no-fly zone for drones that extends five kilometers in a straight line around all Norwegian airports. Use Avinor's drone map and the Ninox Drone app. There, you can get an overview of no-fly zones and apply for permission to fly a drone within the no-fly zone of an airport. Note that from December 8, 2025, Ninox Drone will be replaced by Avinor's own drone app Avidrone.

Do not fly higher than 120 meters

• You are not allowed to fly the drone more than 120 meters away from the nearest point on the ground.

Do not fly over crowds

• Be considerate when flying a drone. It is not permitted to fly a drone over events with large crowds, such as concerts, festivals, or sports events.
